The Future of the Online Gaming Industry
Where are the games and the industry heading?
Most of the games that you’ll see on-line from the mainstream providers are ones that have origins from the bricks & mortar industry.
Even new and “novel” on-line games such as those with 4 rows rather than 3 are well known in the traditional industry (the first major 4 row*5 reel games coming from Ainsworth Gaming and then Aristocrat soon afterwards, with IGT subsequently following suit).
It’s highly likely that many successful features and game styles found in the land-based arena will translate across to the net as time goes by.
As for where the industry ends up…well that’s anybody’s guess.
Hopefully in the end we’ll have a global, regulated, industry…but it’s big business and it seems that the land-based casinos most certainly see the internet as a threat rather than an opportunity, as do various governments.
Only time will tell.
